Tech YES City Sheds Light on ASRock X870´s Ryzen 9 9950X Failure

ASRock motherboards are under scrutiny as catastrophic failures strike AMD Ryzen CPUs, raising reliability concerns in the PC enthusiast community.

Reports of catastrophic CPU failures are mounting among owners of AMD´s Ryzen 7 9800X3D processors, with a significant number linked to ASRock motherboards. By early 2025, close to 200 cases had been documented on ASRock´s official subreddit, pointing to a widespread issue that primarily affects Zen 5-based 9000X3D series chips and ASRock B- and X-series (AM5) boards. While ASRock attempted to mitigate the problem via BIOS updates released at the end of February and in response to feedback from AMD, these measures have not fully resolved the matter. Community trackers suspect that additional incidents remain unreported outside this online log, indicating a potentially broader scope of affected users.

The crisis has now extended beyond the 3D V-Cache models, as highlighted by Tech YES City´s Bryan Bilowol, who reported the sudden failure of his Ryzen 9 9950X CPU while installed on an ASRock X870 Steel Legend motherboard. Although standard ´Granite Ridge´ processors without 3D V-Cache enhancements have not been widely discussed in relation to this problem, concerns are rising that these variants may also be susceptible. Notably, Bilowol´s CPU collapse occurred while it was being used in a friend´s system, with a video post-mortem revealing abnormal gray marks on the dead processor—an ominous sign suggesting serious hardware or electrical faults.

The publicity surrounding these failures, fueled by Tech YES City´s significant viewership, is intensifying pressure on ASRock. The company has previously claimed that the scale of the issue is being exaggerated by misinformation within the community. However, critics, including Bilowol, accuse ASRock of keeping the problem ´under the radar,´ hoping it will dissipate without broad acknowledgment. With ongoing investigations and promises of further revelations, scrutiny over ASRock motherboard reliability and AMD CPU compatibility is set to continue, especially among PC builders and hardware enthusiasts.
