Microsoft Pushes Automatic Windows 11 24H2 Update to Home and Pro Users

Windows 11 24H2 will soon be deployed automatically to most Home and Pro users, bringing interface improvements and new Artificial Intelligence features to Copilot+ PCs.

Microsoft has officially entered the final rollout phase for Windows 11 version 24H2, confirming that the update will be automatically delivered to millions of Home and Pro devices worldwide. Beginning May 2, 2025, any unmanaged system operating on Windows 11 versions 21H2, 22H2, or 23H2—as well as Windows 10—will start to receive the 2024 Update via background download. Once the files have downloaded, users can choose to install the update immediately or delay its installation through the Settings app´s Windows Update section.

The 24H2 update introduces several enhancements aimed at improving productivity and user experience. Users will benefit from a redesigned File Explorer search, expanded focus session capabilities within the Clock app, and more versatile Snap Layouts for managing windows. Additionally, owners of Copilot+ PCs will continue to receive new Artificial Intelligence-powered features, which are released incrementally and may vary based on the device´s hardware and geographical region. These staged features initially appear for Windows Insider participants before reaching the general public.

Microsoft acknowledges that automatic updates could pose storage challenges for devices with limited space, offering a four-week postponement option within Windows Update. For those seeking further delay, command-line tools or local policy adjustments can facilitate more permanent update blocking. The company has also published a comprehensive list of known issues and safeguard holds, such as resolved Azure Virtual Desktop App Attach failures and Remote Desktop freezes from the January 2025 preview. However, devices using specific Dirac Audio drivers, sprotect.sys software, or outdated Easy Anti-Cheat and Intel Smart Sound Technology drivers will not receive the update until compatible versions are available. Temporary issues affecting some wallpaper customization and camera-dependent applications are being addressed. IT administrators can monitor update health via the Windows Updates API in Microsoft Graph, while users encountering problems are encouraged to access the Get Help app or Microsoft Support online.
