Mediatek and Fibocom unveil flagship Wi Fi 8 5G CPE at MWC 2026

Mediatek and Fibocom introduced a flagship customer premises equipment design that couples 5G advanced connectivity with Wi Fi 8 performance for homes and small businesses. The platform targets high density, low latency, and multi band support for emerging artificial intelligence and immersive applications.

Mediatek and Fibocom used MWC 2026 to debut a flagship customer premises equipment solution that combines Fibocom’s FG390 5G module with Mediatek’s Filogic 8800 Wi Fi 8 chipset. The design is positioned to deliver faster, smarter and more reliable network access by unifying 5G advanced wide area connectivity with next generation Wi Fi 8 local networking for global users. Target scenarios span residential broadband and small and midsize business environments that need high throughput and consistent wireless performance.

The platform centers on tight integration between the Filogic 8800 Wi Fi 8 platform and the FG390 5G module powered by the Mediatek T930, which is described as bringing together the best of 5G A and Wi Fi 8 to create seamless, high performance connectivity for homes and SMB. The system emphasizes smarter multi access point collaboration that reduces interference by over 40% and boosts spectrum efficiency for smoother multi device operation in dense environments. With Enhanced Long Range and dRU technologies, wall penetration and coverage increase by up to 40%, which is intended to keep edge connections stable even at the limits of a building or home.

Latency characteristics and device density are also central to the design. Latency drops to sub-millisecond levels, while throughput doubles-even with 200+ devices connected simultaneously, which targets scenarios such as smart homes, offices and public venues with many concurrent clients. The hardware supports 2.4/5/6 GHz tri band concurrency, ensuring reliable connections for Artificial Intelligence devices, augmented and virtual reality applications, and broader smart home networks where multiple classes of connected products operate at once. Together these capabilities position the Mediatek and Fibocom CPE platform as an early example of Wi Fi 8 infrastructure tuned for 5G advanced and emerging intelligent device workloads.

U.S. and China revisit Artificial Intelligence emergency talks

Washington and Beijing are exploring renewed talks on an emergency communication channel for Artificial Intelligence as fears grow over the capabilities of Anthropic’s Mythos model. The shift reflects rising concern in both capitals that competitive pressure is outpacing safeguards.

Artificial Intelligence divides employers as hiring and headcount shift

U.S. hiring beat expectations in April, but employers remain split on whether Artificial Intelligence should drive layoffs, productivity gains, or internal redeployment. At the same time, candidate use of Artificial Intelligence is outpacing employer adoption in hiring, adding new pressure to screening and entry-level recruiting.

What businesses need to know about the EU cyber resilience act

The EU cyber resilience act is turning product cybersecurity into a legal requirement for companies that sell digital products into the European Union. A key compliance milestone arrives in September 2026, well before the full regulation takes effect in 2027.

Claude Mythos and cyber insurance’s next inflection point

Claude Mythos is being treated by governments and regulators as a potential systemic cyber risk with implications for financial stability and insurance markets. Its emergence is intensifying pressure on insurers to clarify whether Artificial Intelligence-enabled cyber losses are covered, excluded, or require new stand-alone products.
