According to analysis from Comscore, a leader in digital behavior measurement, hundreds of consumer-facing artificial intelligence tools are now being tracked across desktop and mobile platforms, underscoring the scale and diversity of adoption in the United States.

Comscore´s latest data reveals that 86 million desktop users—comprising 36% of online PC users—engage with artificial intelligence tools monthly, a figure surpassing traffic to prominent sectors like travel and real estate. Artificial intelligence assistants dominate this space, with 72% of desktop artificial intelligence users interacting with platforms such as Microsoft Copilot, Google Gemini, OpenAI ChatGPT, and Meta AI. On the desktop, artificial intelligence tools are most frequently employed for productivity, content generation, research, and decision support, reflecting the technology´s integration into work and personal routines.

The mobile landscape presents a different user dynamic. Here, 29% of mobile users turn to artificial intelligence, primarily for content creation, visual editing, and amplifying their digital and social media presence. Mobile artificial intelligence tool usage is led by assistants (13.8%), with marketing (9.7%) and design (6.5%) applications also ranking highly. This trend highlights artificial intelligence’s close connection with social platforms and creator culture, empowering users to develop engaging content and strengthen digital identities on the go.

Category-specific insights further clarify these trends. For desktop, artificial intelligence assistants hold the top spot with 61.5 million monthly unique visitors, trailed by audio, images, design, and video tools. Mobile sees assistants leading at 32.3 million, but marketing and design tools show particularly strong engagement. The report singles out DeepSeek, a next-generation assistant launched in January 2025, which amassed 2.5 million U.S. users in its debut month—impressive momentum attributed to its natural language and multilingual strengths.

Since late 2023, the segment of generative artificial intelligence search has witnessed a 16% lift in total search activity in the U.S., reflecting the growing reliance on these technologies to accelerate daily tasks and decision-making. As the ethical discourse continues around the societal impact of artificial intelligence, consumer data points unequivocally to a present—and future—where artificial intelligence is indispensable.
