Unreal Engine 5.7 introduces procedural content and in-editor Artificial Intelligence assistant

Unreal Engine 5.7 adds large-scale procedural content generation, physically accurate material authoring, expanded lighting capacity, and a new in-editor Artificial Intelligence assistant to guide creators.

Unreal Engine 5.7 focuses on enabling creators to build expansive, lifelike worlds and render them in real time at high fidelity on current-generation hardware. The release highlights procedural generation tools that can create dense, lush foliage and other content at massive scale, allowing scenes to be populated with rich detail while maintaining performance targets for real-time rendering.

Material and lighting workflows receive major improvements. Authors can now craft complex layered and blended materials with true physical accuracy, which supports more realistic surface response and shading. Lighting capacity has been increased by an order of magnitude, giving artists the freedom to place many more lights in a scene and achieve the desired visual outcomes without the previous limitations on light counts.

Animation and rigging workflows are described as more powerful and intuitive, and MetaHuman integrations are deeper and more flexible, enabling closer ties between character authoring and the engine. Virtual production capabilities have been expanded to support larger or more sophisticated production scenarios. To help users adopt these features, Unreal Engine 5.7 also introduces an in-editor Artificial Intelligence assistant that offers expert guidance directly inside the editor.

SK Group warns DRAM shortages could curb memory use

SK Group chairman Chey Tae-won warned that customers may reduce memory consumption through infrastructure and software optimization if DRAM suppliers fail to raise output. Demand from Artificial Intelligence data centers is keeping the market tight as memory makers weigh expansion against the long timelines for new fabs.

BitUnlocker bypasses TPM-only Windows 11 BitLocker

Intrinsec disclosed BitUnlocker, a downgrade attack that can bypass TPM-only Windows 11 BitLocker protections with physical access to a machine. The technique abuses a flaw in Windows recovery and deployment components and relies on older trusted boot code.

Micron samples 256 GB DDR5 9200 MT/s RDIMM server modules

Micron has begun sampling 256 GB DDR5 RDIMM server modules built on its 1-gamma technology to key ecosystem partners. The company positions the new modules as a higher-speed, more power-efficient option for scaling next-generation Artificial Intelligence and HPC infrastructure.
