Reddit, the platform known for its sprawling archive of user discussions spanning two decades, is commercializing its trove of human-generated content by launching two new artificial intelligence-powered tools aimed at marketers. The company announced the debut of Reddit Insights and Conversation Summary Add-ons, products designed to give brands access to actionable data and authentic conversations from more than 22 billion posts and comments across its communities.
Reddit Insights provides marketers with real-time metadata and observations, enabling more nuanced campaign strategies and business decisions. Tested by agencies like Publicis for high-profile clients such as The Hershey Company and Comcast, the tool taps into what Reddit terms ´Reddit Community Intelligence.´ Meanwhile, Conversation Summary Add-ons allow advertisers to display Reddit comment summaries and actual user posts directly beneath their ad creatives. Early adopters, including Lucid and Jackbox Games, have reported clickthrough rates over 19 percent higher than standard formats, with Lucid using the feature to surface discussions about electric vehicles to potential buyers seeking peer validation.
Reddit´s new features highlight the growing value of authentic, diverse data in the age of artificial intelligence, as emphasized by chief operating officer Jen Wong. Reddit’s content has already been licensed to major artificial intelligence players, such as OpenAI and Google, and has become one of the most cited sources in Google’s artificial intelligence-powered search features. However, this commercialization also stirs friction: Reddit recently sued Anthropic, alleging unauthorized use of its data to train Claude models. The launch builds on previous artificial intelligence experiments, like Reddit Answers, which by May drew over a million weekly users. Company executives hint that this is just the beginning of their ambitions to leverage community-sourced data for enterprise artificial intelligence applications.
