Pentagon taps four US companies to accelerate advanced AI adoption

Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, and xAI will help fast-track the Department of Defense’s integration of advanced Artificial Intelligence for critical national security operations.

Pentagon’s Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO) has awarded contracts to Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, and xAI to accelerate the Department of Defense’s (DoD) adoption of advanced artificial intelligence capabilities. These four US-based technology leaders will each receive awards with significant funding ceilings, tasked with bringing generative artificial intelligence-driven workflows into a spectrum of national security applications.

The DoD initiative aims to deepen collaboration with industry, leveraging the expertise of these firms to address the evolving landscape of defense operations. Under this strategy, the companies will help design, deploy, and integrate artificial intelligence solutions tailored for intelligence, warfighting, business, and enterprise information systems. Dr Doug Matty, DoD chief digital and artificial intelligence officer, stated that this adoption is vital for supporting military personnel and ensuring the US maintains a strategic technological edge over adversaries. By harnessing commercially available artificial intelligence, the department is pushing to fast-track fielded capabilities and embed them in mission-essential tasks.

The CDAO is also expanding department-wide access to state-of-the-art generative artificial intelligence models. These technologies will be available through secured platforms like the Army´s Enterprise Large Language Model Workspace, powered by Ask Sage, and further integrated into DoD´s broader data infrastructure via tools such as Advancing Analytics (Advana), Maven Smart System, and Edge Data Mesh nodes. In addition, the DoD is working alongside the General Services Administration to unify federal artificial intelligence procurement, aiming to maximize government-wide buying power for computational resources and production solutions. This coordinated approach ensures federal agencies have timely access to leading-edge artificial intelligence technologies.

This initiative follows a December 2024 program launch by CDAO to accelerate artificial intelligence deployment across the DoD. The proactive shift signals a clear ‘commercial-first’ strategy as the department taps private sector strengths to enhance operational effectiveness and US defense innovation in the digital era.

Industry 5.0 shifts focus to human centric value and sustainability

Industry 5.0 reframes industrial transformation around collaboration between humans and machines, emphasizing growth, resilience, and sustainability over narrow efficiency gains. Many organizations still underinvest in human centric and sustainable use cases despite evidence that they create higher value.

Best artificial intelligence video generators for every creator

Leading artificial intelligence video tools like Sora, Veo 3, Adobe Firefly, Runway and Midjourney target different needs, from free social clips to commercially safe productions, but all come with legal and ethical tradeoffs. Choosing the right platform means balancing price, creative control, output quality and how each service handles your data and copyrights.
