The newly formed Artificial Intelligence Steering Committee will oversee the nationwide integration of artificial intelligence tools and systems. In parallel, the government plans to set up a separate panel of experts to advise on responsible deployment, data protection, and regulatory safeguards. Officials indicated that the forthcoming national policy on artificial intelligence will emphasize ethical use and the protection of citizens’ information, signaling a dual-track approach that combines rapid technological rollout with governance and accountability measures.
Pakistan has already begun introducing artificial intelligence in public sector operations. Notably, authorities are deploying an artificial intelligence based Customs Clearance and Risk Management System intended to streamline tax collection, reduce human intervention, and increase transparency in customs processes. The government also announced plans for digital upgrades at southern ports that will use artificial intelligence to manage congestion, accelerate cargo handling, and support export growth. These initiatives demonstrate how the state aims to translate policy direction into operational improvements across trade and logistics.
Sharif underscored that artificial intelligence will be instrumental in making the implementation of Pakistan’s digital economy more effective and transparent.
