LG Display Achieves Milestone with Blue Phosphorescent OLED Panel Verification

LG Display leads the industry by verifying mass-production-ready blue phosphorescent OLED panels, moving closer to the ´dream OLED´ standard.

LG Display announced a major breakthrough as the first company to verify commercialization-level performance of blue phosphorescent OLED panels on its mass production lines. This achievement materialized approximately eight months after LG Display formed a development partnership with Universal Display Corporation (UDC) to advance blue phosphorescent technology, marking a pivotal step toward the industry goal of a ´dream OLED´ display.

Within the display sector, the term ´dream OLED´ refers to a panel capable of utilizing phosphorescence for all three primary colors: red, green, and blue. The foundational difference between OLED panel types lies in their emission methods. Fluorescent OLEDs emit light immediately when electrical energy is applied, but they offer a luminous efficiency of just 25%. Phosphorescent OLEDs, by briefly storing electrical energy before emission, achieve a much higher luminous efficiency of 100% and can operate with a quarter of the energy required by their fluorescent counterparts, though the manufacturing process is more sophisticated.

Historically, industry progress has largely centered on achieving superior phosphorescent performance for red and green colors, with blue phosphorescence presenting significant scientific and engineering challenges. LG Display´s successful verification on mass production lines sets a new commercial benchmark, paving the way for future OLED panels that are both more power-efficient and capable of delivering enhanced color and brightness performance. This innovation is anticipated to drive advancements in next-generation display technologies for televisions, monitors, and other electronic devices that rely on high-quality visual outputs.

Apple plans Intel 18A-P for M7 and 14A for A21

Apple is expected to use Intel’s 18A-P process for M7 chips in MacBook models and Intel’s 14A process for A21 chips in iPhones. The shift points to a broader supplier strategy as Apple moves beyond TSMC for parts of its future silicon roadmap.

Google and other chatbots surface real phone numbers

Generative Artificial Intelligence chatbots are surfacing real phone numbers and other personal details, sometimes by pulling from obscure public sources and sometimes by inventing plausible but wrong contact information. Privacy experts say users have few reliable ways to find out whether their data is in model training sets or to force its removal.

U.S. and China revisit Artificial Intelligence emergency talks

Washington and Beijing are exploring renewed talks on an emergency communication channel for Artificial Intelligence as fears grow over the capabilities of Anthropic’s Mythos model. The shift reflects rising concern in both capitals that competitive pressure is outpacing safeguards.

Artificial Intelligence divides employers as hiring and headcount shift

U.S. hiring beat expectations in April, but employers remain split on whether Artificial Intelligence should drive layoffs, productivity gains, or internal redeployment. At the same time, candidate use of Artificial Intelligence is outpacing employer adoption in hiring, adding new pressure to screening and entry-level recruiting.
