KIOXIA Debuts First Enterprise NVMe SSD with 8th Gen BiCS FLASH

KIOXIA unveils its CM9 Series, the industry´s first enterprise NVMe SSDs powered by 8th generation BiCS FLASH technology, designed for Artificial Intelligence, machine learning, and high-performance computing workloads.

KIOXIA America, Inc. has announced the development and prototype demonstration of its latest enterprise-grade solid state drives, the KIOXIA CM9 Series PCIe 5.0 NVMe SSDs. These disks are the first in the enterprise market to utilize KIOXIA´s 8th generation BiCS FLASH technology, which relies on TLC-based 3D flash memory. Central to their innovation is the integration of CMOS directly Bonded to Array (CBA) technology, enabling significant gains in power efficiency, drive performance, and storage density, while effectively doubling available capacity per flash device compared to previous generations.

With modern computing workloads such as Artificial Intelligence, machine learning, and high-performance computing rapidly growing, there is a rising need for robust and efficient storage infrastructure. These applications push the limits not only of processing power but also demand increasingly scalable and power-efficient storage to manage operational overhead and support the scalability required by advanced data centers. The KIOXIA CM9 Series is purpose-built to respond directly to these evolving requirements by delivering enterprise-class performance alongside improved power utilization and high capacity, positioning the drives as a foundational component for next-generation data intensive workloads.

The combination of PCIe 5.0 interface and cutting-edge BiCS FLASH technology sets the CM9 Series apart within the enterprise storage landscape. The new drives are expected to enhance the efficiency of large-scale workloads and applications, catering to the modern enterprise´s needs for faster, more reliable, and cost-effective storage solutions. The innovation underlying the KIOXIA CM9 lineup demonstrates the company´s focus on meeting the increasingly sophisticated demands of cloud and data center environments, where high throughput and minimized energy consumption are paramount considerations.
