The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) is a UK ministerial body tasked with accelerating innovation, investment, and productivity through world-class science. In infrastructure, a significant broadband upgrade will bring fast, reliable connectivity to around 65,000 remote Scottish homes and businesses, targeting digital inclusion in some of the UK´s most isolated areas. The department also celebrated the launch of Europe’s first next-generation semiconductor facility at the University of Southampton, positioning the UK at the forefront of advanced chip manufacturing and student skills development.

DSIT is actively expanding the UK´s participation in international research, with UK researchers and businesses now having broader access to Horizon Europe funding for cutting-edge quantum and space projects. Another key investment includes a £121 million boost in quantum technology, focusing on tackling fraud, preventing money laundering, and driving economic growth through technological innovation. The department is led by Secretary of State Peter Kyle MP and a cadre of ministers, supported by an executive team including the Permanent Secretary and a range of directors responsible for science, innovation, digital, and product development. High-profile groups within DSIT, such as the Artificial Intelligence Security Institute and the Government Digital Service, exemplify its expansive remit across core scientific and digital policy domains.
