ASML Accelerates Plans for New Mega Facility in the Netherlands

ASML eyes a 2028 opening for its massive new Brainport Industries Campus facility, aiming to create 20,000 jobs and address surging demand for photolithography tech—vital for Artificial Intelligence and high-tech industries.

ASML, the leading photolithography equipment manufacturer based in Veldhoven, is pressing ahead with plans for a significant new expansion at the Brainport Industries Campus (BIC) near Eindhoven Airport. Reports suggest this move represents a €2.5 billion investment, backed by the Dutch government, and is expected to create approximately 20,000 new jobs in the region. Surging worldwide demand for ASML’s extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUVL) systems, essential for the semiconductor industry and rapidly advancing sectors like Artificial Intelligence, has accelerated the company’s growth timeline.

The latest updates reveal that company representatives and officials from the Eindhoven municipality have introduced an updated schedule, forecasting an initial opening of the facility’s northern section as soon as 2028. This adjusted date comes amid previous expectations that the complex would not be operational until 2030 or later. The scope of the project is immense: the preliminary urban development plan (VOSP) details around 428,000 square meters of gross floor area, dedicated to manufacturing and support functions, including offices, to accommodate the influx of new employees and expanded production needs.

Stijn Steenbakkers, Alderman for Brainport, emphasized the strategic and economic importance of the expansion. He highlighted the project´s role in bolstering local prosperity, ensuring continued technological leadership, and enabling sustainable, high-tech innovation in the region. The plans, which are scheduled for presentation to Eindhoven´s city council in September, underscore the necessity of modern infrastructure and comprehensive transportation solutions to support the anticipated scale of operations. Local authorities and ASML are working closely to address the urban and logistical challenges posed by such a large-scale high-tech development.
