MSI says the personal computing market is facing shortages across several silicon components, with pressure tied largely to Artificial Intelligence demand and to NVIDIA and AMD directing supply toward Artificial Intelligence data center products. Huang Jinqing, MSI’s General Manager, predicts a 15-30% price increase for its gaming products across the board as a result of the current market conditions. Jinqing also says there is an NVIDIA GPU supply shortage on the order of 20%.
MSI expects the broader market impact to extend beyond higher prices and constrained graphics card availability. Jinqing suggests that the overall PC market will shrink by as much as 10-20%. Retail data is described as even weaker, with Mindfactory’s sales figures pointing to a more significant decline in GPU sales volume.
Memory shortages are also reshaping motherboard strategy, particularly around DDR5 supply. Hardware makers have been turning back to older platforms, and ASUS has already increased production for DDR4 motherboards. MSI is now taking a similar approach, with Jinqing confirming that the company has signed long-term contracts for memory and shifted production to increase DDR4 motherboard output.
