MrBeast warns of ‘scary times’ for creators as Artificial Intelligence video platforms like Sora rise

MrBeast says Artificial Intelligence video tools could upend YouTube’s creator economy, warning of “scary times” after OpenAI’s Sora launch and Meta’s Vibes rollout.

YouTube megastar Jimmy Donaldson, known as MrBeast, warned of “scary times” ahead for creators as Artificial Intelligence video tools blur the line between real and synthetic content. “When Artificial Intelligence videos are just as good as normal videos, I wonder what that will do to YouTube and how it will impact the millions of creators currently making content for a living… scary times,” he said on X. His comments follow OpenAI’s release of a Sora social media platform that can generate short-form Artificial Intelligence videos, including clips featuring users who “upload” themselves, and Meta’s recent debut of its similar video-generating Vibes platform.

Other prominent creators are voicing concern. YouTuber Casey Neistat called the Sora app a “TikTok clone where every video is Artificial Intelligence” in a video posted Sunday. Donaldson himself has experimented with the technology, briefly offering a tool for Artificial Intelligence-generated YouTube thumbnails in July before removing it after criticism from creators. He said he would instead direct users to human artists and added, “I care more than any of you could ever imagine about the YouTube community. It deeply makes me sad when I do something that people in the community are upset by.” Separately, Beast Philanthropy announced a February partnership with Light AI to distribute 10,000 Artificial Intelligence-powered tests that diagnose Group A Streptococcus via smartphone photo to patients in Africa.

Concerns about Artificial Intelligence’s impact on the creator economy are mounting alongside adoption. A 2024 HypeAuditor survey of 620 Instagram influencers found more than 80% used Artificial Intelligence tools for content creation, yet one-third questioned the quality of Artificial Intelligence-generated outputs and 45% worried it would make it harder for human creators to stand out. Artificial Intelligence-native personas are also gaining traction on YouTube: virtual YouTuber Bloo has amassed 2.7 million subscribers and more than 700 million views, and creator Jordi van den Bussche said the channel has generated millions of dollars in revenue.

Platforms and executives counter that Artificial Intelligence can expand access and opportunity. Amjad Hanif, YouTube’s head of creator payments and products, told Fortune in 2024 that the technology could help level the playing field for smaller creators. “A lot of the effects-the visual quality, the visual imagery-up until now it’s taken a team of somebody like Jimmy to be able to produce,” he said, adding that Artificial Intelligence will make those capabilities available to a much broader group of creators. As Sora, Vibes and similar tools roll out, creators are weighing the promise of new production power against the risk of commoditized, indistinguishable video.

Intel repurposes scrap dies to expand CPU supply

Intel is repurposing wafer-edge and lower-yield silicon that would normally be discarded into sellable CPUs as industry demand outpaces supply. The strategy reflects a market where customers are willing to buy lower-tier parts to secure any available capacity.

The missing step between Artificial Intelligence hype and profit

Artificial Intelligence companies have built powerful systems and promised sweeping change, but the path from technical progress to real business value remains unclear. Conflicting studies, weak workplace performance, and poor transparency are leaving a critical gap between hype and evidence.
