Artificial Intelligence gains ground at Le Mans

Artificial Intelligence tools are moving from back-office aids into design, preparation and race strategy at Le Mans. Teams still face confidentiality barriers before feeding sensitive performance data into external systems.

Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Mistral and other Artificial Intelligence tools are becoming part of the working environment at Le Mans rather than experimental add-ons. Teams entered for the 2026 24 Hours of Le Mans already depend on the technology’s abilities, using it most visibly for preparation, information handling and analysis. The technology is described as a modern Swiss Army knife, with expanding use across racing operations even as some applications remain limited by competitive secrecy.

The Genesis GMR-001 is the only newcomer to the Hypercar class this year. How much of its design was achieved thanks to Artificial Intelligence: 5% or closer to 50%? François-Xavier Demaison, technical director of Genesis Magma Racing, said the contribution remains small and that aerodynamic use at this level of endurance racing is difficult, but he expects the team to develop it. He said Genesis already uses the technology in rallying and will use it in endurance racing. A major obstacle is data confidentiality, because useful analysis requires teams to feed sensitive data into the tool. TDS Racing #14 Oreca 07 (LMP2) track engineer Arthur Trouttet said: “We don’t use it enough, to be honest. But we are starting to. For the moment, our team has nothing that’s directly linked to an Artificial Intelligence tool. But we use it in the preparation phase.”

Five-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Toyota applies Artificial Intelligence in its endurance programme. Toyota Racing technical director David Floury said the manufacturer uses existing platforms as well as internal capabilities, including a whole department dedicated to Artificial Intelligence. Development has been exponential in the past four or five years. Toyota first uses it to transcribe multilingual meetings, which are essential because attendees regularly come from Japan, Europe and the rest of the world, and technical uses are growing quickly.

On track, Artificial Intelligence is already useful for quickly analysing large volumes of data. Toyota does not totally base decisions on it yet, but Floury said it helps strategy and tactics through its analytical abilities. He expects the technology to continue expanding across design, car development, operations and strategy, becoming harder to separate from competitive performance. The prospect of a Hypercar designed from start to finish by Artificial Intelligence remains unresolved, but rulebook analysis is already strong enough to surprise engineers with concise summaries of sporting and technical regulations.

AMD opens Ryzen Artificial Intelligence Halo mini PC pre-orders

AMD’s Strix Halo-powered developer platform is now listed for pre-order through Micro Center in the US. The compact kit targets Artificial Intelligence developers with a shared-memory Ryzen Artificial Intelligence Max+ platform and Linux or Windows options.

Great American Artificial Intelligence Act targets frontier model developers

The Great American Artificial Intelligence Act would create new obligations mainly for frontier model developers, while leaving many deployment risks for everyday business users intact. Companies using commercial tools would still face state-law, fraud, workforce, privacy, and governance exposure under existing frameworks.
