Micron Technology has introduced the Micron 3610 nvme ssd, presented as the industry’s first pci express gen 5 g9 qlc ssd for client computing. The company positions the drive as a breakthrough for mainstream pcs and ultra thin laptops, focusing on performance, efficiency, and capacity while retaining a thin and light hardware profile. The product is built on Micron’s g9 nand architecture and is designed to bring premium storage capabilities to a wider set of consumer and mobile devices.
According to Micron, the 3610 ssd achieves up to 11,000 MB/s sequential read speeds and 9,300 MB/s sequential write speeds. The drive is described as combining industry leading gen 5 speed with the cost advantages of qlc technology, with the goal of delivering next level responsiveness in everyday and demanding workloads. Micron also emphasizes that this performance is delivered without compromising battery life in portable systems, aligning the drive with the needs of mobile users and thin devices.
The 3610 ssd offers what Micron calls the world’s only 4 TB capacity in a compact single sided m.2 2230 form factor, which the company highlights as a fit for ultra thin laptops and devices designed for on device Artificial Intelligence workloads. Mark Montierth, senior vice president and general manager of Micron’s mobile and client business unit, states that the combination of pci express gen 5 technology, g9 qlc nand, and single sided design delivers a mix of performance, capacity, and power efficiency intended for modern client systems. He adds that the 3610 will support ultra thin devices that must handle on device Artificial Intelligence, immersive streaming, and other performance intensive tasks.
