Meta strikes multiple Artificial Intelligence deals with news publishers

Meta has signed commercial Artificial Intelligence data agreements with USA Today, People Inc, CNN, Fox News, The Daily Caller, Washington Examiner and Le Monde to provide 'real-time' news links to its chatbot.

Meta said it has struck several commercial Artificial Intelligence data agreements with a group of news publishers, naming USA Today, People Inc, CNN, Fox News, The Daily Caller, Washington Examiner and Le Monde. The deals are intended to let the Facebook-parent link the publishers’ articles and websites into its chat experience, enabling its chatbot to surface news and updates sourced from those publishers.

The tie-ups will allow Meta to provide “real-time” news and updates through its Artificial Intelligence chatbot by linking to articles and websites from the publishers, the company said. “When you ask Meta Artificial Intelligence news-related questions, you will now receive information and links that draw from more diverse content sources to help you discover timely and relevant content tailored to your interests,” the company said. Meta added it will continue to add new partnerships and explore new features; “Terms of the deal have not been publicly disclosed, People Inc. and USA Today said separately on Friday.”

The arrangements come as Meta seeks to attract more users to its Artificial Intelligence services amid heavy competition, with rivals also signing content licensing deals and investing to bolster their offerings.
