NVIDIA has announced the availability of a native GeForce NOW app for Valve´s Steam Deck, marking a significant enhancement in the device´s cloud gaming capabilities. The new integration allows Steam Deck users to experience high-quality, GeForce RTX-powered gameplay directly on their handheld system, broadening both the technical and experiential scope of portable gaming.
Unveiled at the CES trade show earlier this year, the GeForce NOW native app unlocks features that were previously inaccessible on the Steam Deck. Users can now stream games at resolutions up to 4K and 60 frames per second when connected to a TV, with support for HDR10, NVIDIA´s DLSS 4 upscaling, and Reflex technologies on compatible titles. These technologies enable superior image quality, improved responsiveness, and enhanced fluidity in gaming sessions. Notably, streaming through GeForce NOW lets users run games at high settings and performance levels that the Steam Deck cannot achieve natively due to its hardware limitations.
This upgrade also delivers practical benefits, such as improved battery life for Steam Deck users. By offloading game rendering to RTX-powered cloud servers, players can experience up to 50% longer battery life compared to running games directly on the device. The launch coincides with the addition of six new games to the GeForce NOW library, including ‘Tokyo Xtreme Racing’ by the Japanese developer Genki, providing fresh content that leverages the new streaming capabilities. With this release, NVIDIA and Valve are positioning the Steam Deck as an even more versatile platform for handheld gaming enthusiasts who demand both portability and high performance.
