Noncompliance comes with heavy penalties, signaling the region’s resolve to enforce these new standards.

Comparing the two systems, the U.S. relies on agile, lifecycle-based oversight and progressive change management through PCCPs, while the EU emphasizes upfront, risk-based tiers and strict dual conformity via third-party Notified Bodies. Both frameworks demand robust documentation, transparency, and a commitment to continuous monitoring but differ in their mechanics and enforcement approach. The article also outlines practical steps for regulatory teams: developing precise PCCPs, mapping MDR/IVDR against the AI Act, investing in compliance infrastructure, maintaining proactive dialogue with authorities, and staying vigilant about global regulatory trends.
