Elliptic Labs, a leader in Artificial Intelligence-driven software sensor technology, has announced the deployment of its AI Virtual Smart Sensor Platform on three new smartphone models scheduled for release in July 2025. The devices—two from HONOR (the HONOR X70 Series) and one from vivo (the vivo X200FE)—push the company´s 2025 launch tally to 39 models and mark the company´s 200th smartphone model shipped since its inception.
The core of Elliptic Labs’ innovation is the AI Virtual Proximity Sensor, a software-only solution that leverages deep neural networks and system telemetry to detect when a user moves their phone to their ear during a call. This allows the phone’s display to switch off and touch inputs to deactivate, preventing unintended actions and improving battery performance. By eliminating dedicated hardware sensors, this approach reduces costs, mitigates supply chain risks, and frees up internal space in smartphones.
Beyond proximity detection, the broader AI Virtual Smart Sensor Platform integrates data from various sources—including onboard sensors, system-level telemetry, and cloud-based large language models—to contextualize user behavior and environment. This contextual intelligence enhances personalization and productivity while supporting privacy. The solution is now live on over 500 million devices worldwide and operates seamlessly across all major operating systems and device types. Headquartered in Oslo, Norway, with an international presence in the US, China, South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan, Elliptic Labs maintains full control over its technology stack and continues to set benchmarks for responsive, efficient, and user-centric mobile experiences.
