Cubebrush Bans AI Content from Online Marketplace

Cubebrush has updated its policy to effectively ban Artificial Intelligence-generated assets from search and storefronts on its marketplace.

Cubebrush, one of the largest online marketplaces for computer graphics (CG) assets, has overhauled its policy regarding Artificial Intelligence-generated content. The platform now requires creators to explicitly tag any products made with Artificial Intelligence tools. While such content is technically still permitted on the site, it is automatically hidden from searches and sellers´ public stores, rendering it ´essentially invisible´ to most buyers. Only those who possess direct links can access Artificial Intelligence-generated assets.

The company, which hosts nearly 150,000 assets, cites a growing influx of Artificial Intelligence-created products as the reason for this move. Previously, Cubebrush staff manually removed Artificial Intelligence-generated content from search results. Now, the onus is on sellers to label such assets or risk deletion and potential permanent bans for repeated non-compliance. According to Cubebrush’s latest blog post, the ultimate goal is to maintain an ´Artificial Intelligence-free marketplace´—a stance that underlines a wider industry debate about the value and ethics of Artificial Intelligence in the creative sector.

This new approach places Cubebrush among the stricter CG marketplaces in the industry. Competitor Flipped Normals does not allow Artificial Intelligence-generated content at all, removing such assets even if they are free. By contrast, Epic Games-owned Fab and ArtStation Marketplace allow Artificial Intelligence-generated content if tagged appropriately, but prohibit the use of site assets for training Artificial Intelligence models. Other platforms, like TurboSquid and CGTrader, navigate shades of gray by licensing assets for Artificial Intelligence training purposes or developing their own generative Artificial Intelligence tools. With its policy, Cubebrush adds another dimension to the evolving landscape by making Artificial Intelligence content invisible but not fully deleting it, thereby ensuring that human-created work remains at the forefront of its digital marketplace.
