Besen framed tools as executable components that extend an LLM’s capabilities, ranging from simple Python functions and API calls to complex database operations and custom business logic. The framework standardizes tool definition by requiring a name, description, and input schema, and it can auto-generate Pydantic input schemas from decorated Python functions to streamline developer work.

For more complex integrations the framework supports custom tools implemented by extending a Tool class, enabling richer Pydantic models, run options, and defined output types. Besen demonstrated a DatabaseTool example that defines a QueryInput model and implements a _run method to handle SQL interactions. Tools are supplied to agents as a list, allowing the LLM to choose the appropriate tool for a task. The BeeArtificial Intelligence runtime manages the entire execution flow: it passes allowed tools to the model, validates inputs, executes tool calls, handles errors, collects results, and returns outputs to the agent.

Operational features aim to make agents resilient and production ready. The framework includes cycle detection to avoid infinite tool loops, retry logic for transient failures, memory persistence to maintain context across interactions, and type validation to ensure data integrity. Besen noted the same retry logic covers local tool errors and connection issues such as timeouts and server errors. A company analysis agent demo highlighted dynamic tool switching: it tried an internal document search first, then switched to an internet search when internal data was insufficient, and finally synthesized a response when the LLM had enough information. Overall, BeeArtificial Intelligence emphasizes developer efficiency by abstracting boilerplate around external calls, retries, and error handling, enabling teams to build robust, actionable Artificial Intelligence agents that interact reliably with real-world services.
