Intel´s 18A Foundry Node Reportedly Earns Praise from ASIC Clients

Intel´s 18A foundry node is drawing positive feedback as ASIC customers like NVIDIA and Broadcom reportedly test early samples, signaling progress in Artificial Intelligence and semiconductor manufacturing.

Intel is seeing a wave of positive feedback from its foundry customers as it advances work on its much-anticipated 18A node process, according to revelations during a recent Q1 earnings call and reports from industry insiders. The company disclosed that external clients have begun testing their ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit) designs using the new manufacturing technology, and preliminary samples have received notably strong performance ratings.

Sources cited by Ctee Taiwan indicate that Intel´s foundry services have supplied test samples to major semiconductor players including NVIDIA, Broadcom, and Faraday Technology. Faraday reportedly revealed that the tape-out for their 18A platform was completed last October, and the received test chips have been connected successfully since then. Inside sources believe NVIDIA and Broadcom are currently running manufacturing tests with these prototypes, and additional reports suggest Intel has also delivered 18A nodes to IBM and several other undisclosed partners. All groups have allegedly been impressed by the initial verification results.

These developments arrive amid speculation over Intel´s internal strategies for next-generation designs. Contrary to claims that Intel would outsource all manufacturing for its forthcoming Nova Lake compute tile, recent chatter picked up by Ctee Taiwan suggests that not all aspects are being outsourced; instead, Intel is growing more confident in the capabilities of its own foundry. The favorable feedback on the 18A node could strengthen the company´s bid to reclaim technological leadership and secure more high-profile customers amid stiff competition from other foundry giants like TSMC and Samsung.
