Google launches AI Futures Fund to support artificial intelligence startups

Google unveils the AI Futures Fund, offering funding, resources, and direct support to startups developing products and services powered by Artificial Intelligence.

Google has announced its latest initiative, the AI Futures Fund, which is designed to back startups focused on developing innovative products and services utilizing artificial intelligence. This program targets companies at various stages of growth and seeks to provide them with investment, access to Google DeepMind’s most advanced AI models, expertise, and additional resources to help accelerate their innovation and development processes.

Through the AI Futures Fund, selected startups will receive exclusive early access to key artificial intelligence models from Google DeepMind, such as Gemini, Imagen, and Veo. They will also gain technical and business guidance from specialized teams including researchers, product managers, engineers, and market specialists from DeepMind and Google Labs. Notable early program participants include Viggle, a platform leveraging Gemini, Imagen, and Veo for new video creation methods, and Toonsutra, an Indian digital comics startup that uses Gemini to streamline multilingual content translation. Initial results from Toonsutra have shown that Gemini significantly reduces the time and effort needed compared to Google’s standard Translation API.

In addition to model access and expertise, the AI Futures Fund provides cloud computing credits and technical support through Google Cloud to eligible startups. Those selected may also receive direct equity investment from Google, giving them a significant growth boost. The fund is open for applications in regions where Gemini is available, reflecting Google’s broader commitment to integrating artificial intelligence across its products and supporting the next generation of technological creators. Recently, Google has also launched programs such as film funding initiatives to explore human-artificial intelligence relationships and creative collaborations like the Las Vegas Sphere’s generative AI-powered Wizard of Oz recreation, underscoring the company’s growing investment in artificial intelligence innovation across different sectors.
