Taiwan Hospitals Deploy NVIDIA-Powered Artificial Intelligence for Medical Innovation

Taiwan´s leading hospitals are transforming care with NVIDIA-driven Artificial Intelligence, robotics, and digital twin technologies to improve diagnostics, workflows, and patient outcomes.

Healthcare providers in Taiwan are rapidly adopting advanced technologies such as agentic Artificial Intelligence, robotics, and digital twins to revolutionize patient care, surgical processes, and hospital operations. Addressing the pressing challenges of staff shortages, rising costs, and an aging population, top institutions including Cathay General Hospital, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital (CGMH), National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUH), and Taichung Veterans General Hospital (TCVGH) are partnering with system builders like Advantech, Onyx, Foxconn, and YUAN. Solutions leverage NVIDIA’s agentic Artificial Intelligence platforms and hardware, such as the Holoscan and IGX edge computing systems, Jetson embedded computing modules, and Omniverse for highly detailed virtual hospital environments.

At CGMH, Artificial Intelligence has been integrated into colonoscopy diagnostics to enable real-time polyp detection and classification, enhancing surgical precision and clinical workflow efficiency. Using the NVIDIA Holoscan platform and IGX edge systems, CGMH’s medical imaging Artificial Intelligence agents process colonoscopy streams both for real-time inference and continuous training, improving detection speeds and outcomes. Infrastructure incorporating DGX systems, MONAI frameworks, and NVIDIA Triton-powered models further boost image analysis, substantially reducing processing times — notably achieving a tenfold acceleration in newborn examination record processing.

Cathay General Hospital, in collaboration with National Taiwan University Hospital, Onyx, and aetherAI, has developed an Artificial Intelligence-assisted colonoscopy device powered by the NVIDIA Jetson AGX Xavier module. Trained on over 400,000 annotated medical images, the system delivers up to 95.8% accuracy in polyp detection and raises adenoma detection rates by up to 30%, helping clinicians make faster, safer decisions. NTUH has embraced Artificial Intelligence imaging for cardiovascular and liver diagnoses, deploying models like HeaortaNet for 3D heart segmentation and a Jetson Orin NX-powered system for real-time liver tumor detection during ultrasound exams, significantly reducing diagnostic timeframes and aiding in early-stage disease identification.

Meanwhile, TCVGH collaborates with Foxconn to integrate service robots and digital twins powered by NVIDIA Omniverse, which simulate hospital workflows and enable service robots to autonomously deliver supplies. Foxconn’s Artificial Intelligence system leverages NVIDIA Hopper GPUs and DGX systems to create 3D breast models for cancer screening. TCVGH’s Co-Healer solution, based on the TAIDE-LX-7B large language model and NVIDIA Jetson Xavier NX, further streamlines clinical documentation and exam preparation, alleviating staff workloads while enhancing patient care and educational support. Collectively, these initiatives underscore Taiwan’s leadership in harnessing Artificial Intelligence-driven platforms to address healthcare’s most urgent needs, setting a precedent for global smart hospital innovation.
