NVIDIA has officially released its AI Blueprint for Video Search and Summarization (VSS), designed to enable developers across a wide range of industries to build and deploy video analytics Artificial Intelligence agents quickly and at scale. Video data now constitutes more than half of all global data traffic, yet remains largely untapped for actionable insights, with less than 1% being analyzed. The VSS blueprint, powered by the NVIDIA Metropolis platform, integrates vision language models (VLMs) and large language models (LLMs) to facilitate real-time and archive video analysis, unlocking substantial opportunities for automation, safety, and productivity.
Beneath the VSS blueprint is a robust technology stack featuring NVIDIA VILA, Llama Nemotron, NeMo Retriever microservices, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG). These tools enable generative capabilities and connect LLMs to enterprise data, delivering advanced video search, rapid summarization, anomaly detection, and incident reporting. Compatible with hardware such as NVIDIA A100, H100 GPUs, RTX 6000 PRO, and DGX Spark, the VSS blueprint is highly scalable, processing hundreds of live streams or video clips and offering supplementary features like audio transcription for contextual understanding.
Industry adoption is already reshaping various sectors. Electronics giant Pegatron employs the VSS blueprint to optimize manufacturing processes and train employees, achieving a 7% reduction in labor costs and a 67% drop in defect rates. Taiwanese manufacturers are leveraging similar technology for digital twins and operational improvements, while Kaohsiung City, Taiwan, utilizes a unified vision Artificial Intelligence solution to cut incident response times by up to 80%. The National Hockey League has incorporated the blueprint for rapid footage retrieval and automated content creation. Additionally, Siemens has used VSS components to build a generative Artificial Intelligence copilot assisting factory workers, resulting in notable productivity gains.
