YouTube is expanding its conversational artificial intelligence assistant beyond mobile and web to smart TVs, gaming consoles, and streaming devices, bringing interactive support directly to the large screen viewing experience. The feature is designed to let viewers engage with content more deeply by enabling questions and answers without interrupting video playback, aligning with YouTube’s broader effort to integrate artificial intelligence into everyday media consumption.
Eligible viewers can access the assistant using an on-screen “Ask” button that appears alongside video controls, or through voice input using a remote microphone. Once activated, the system provides contextual answers that relate directly to the video being watched, which allows users to clarify information, explore related topics, or discover additional content tied to what is currently on screen. By keeping the interaction within the video environment, YouTube aims to make conversational support feel like a natural extension of viewing rather than a separate search workflow.
The feature is currently limited to select users aged 18 and older, reflecting a controlled rollout as YouTube tests performance and user response at scale. It supports multiple languages, including English, Hindi, Spanish, Portuguese, and Korean, which positions the service for use across diverse regional markets. The move underscores YouTube’s strategy to use artificial intelligence to enhance content discovery and engagement as television viewing solidifies its role as a dominant channel for the platform, particularly in living room and shared-screen contexts.
