SK hynix Inc. has announced the successful completion of customer validation for its 96 GB CXL Memory Module (CMM) utilizing DDR5 technology, based on the CXL 2.0 standard. This advanced DRAM solution boasts a processing capability of 36 GB/s—a 50% increase in memory capacity and a 30% improvement in bandwidth over previous DDR5 modules. SK hynix highlights that these advancements can significantly lower the total cost of ownership for clients building and operating modern data centers, a critical factor as demands for cloud services and Artificial Intelligence workloads continue to rise.
Building on the momentum from the 96 GB CMM validation, SK hynix is now undergoing a separate customer validation process for a 128 GB CXL module. This higher-capacity product leverages 32 Gb DDR5 DRAM fabricated using the company’s fifth-generation 10-nanometer (1bnm) technology, resulting in enhanced performance per watt. SK hynix is aiming for a swift completion of the 128 GB validation to diversify its CXL memory portfolio and better accommodate the evolving needs of enterprise customers seeking scalable and efficient server memory solutions.
Complementing the hardware advances, SK hynix has developed HMSDK, a performance-optimized software stack for its CMM-DDR5 modules. This software was integrated into the Linux operating system in September, optimizing the performance of server systems utilizing CXL memory. The company’s ongoing efforts are geared toward expanding the CXL ecosystem, facilitating greater compatibility, and delivering robust infrastructure for data-intensive applications in cloud computing and Artificial Intelligence. With these latest achievements, SK hynix continues to reinforce its leadership in next-generation memory technologies for the rapidly growing data center market.
