Nvidia is preparing a broad release of DLSS 4.5 Dynamic Multi Frame Generation for GeForce RTX 50 series Blackwell gaming GPUs, with general availability set for March 31 after an initial unveiling in January 2026. The feature will allow these GPUs to dynamically adjust the DLSS Multi Frame Generation rate between 0 (no frame generation) and 6x, based on a target frame rate that is determined by the connected display’s capabilities. Activation will be handled per title through the Nvidia app, limited to supported games.
Multi Frame Generation enables the GPU to generate up to five frames following each traditionally rendered frame using Artificial Intelligence, which can effectively multiply reported frame rates. When the RTX 50 series launched with DLSS 4, support was capped at up to 4x MFG, but Nvidia later raised this ceiling to 6x MFG in the 2025 DLSS 4.5 update. That update introduced a new 2nd generation Transformer Artificial Intelligence model that is described as more accurate and better at predicting motion vectors, which in turn allowed Nvidia to safely increase the MFG factor to six while targeting improved visual stability.
Because inserting generated frames can increase input and system latency, Dynamic Multi Frame Generation is designed so the driver can opportunistically lower the MFG factor in order to improve whole system latencies when needed. This approach aims to balance very high frame rates with responsive gameplay by scaling frame generation intensity relative to performance and latency conditions. At GDC 2026, Nvidia also stated that DLSS 4.5 support is planned for at least 20 of this year’s most anticipated AAA game releases, signaling a broad push to integrate the updated frame generation technology across major upcoming titles.
