Microsoft Rolls Out Recall and Enhanced Artificial Intelligence Features for Copilot+ PCs

Microsoft debuts Recall, Click to Do, and an upgraded Windows Search on Copilot+ PCs, bringing local Artificial Intelligence-driven productivity and privacy enhancements.

Microsoft has introduced three significant Artificial Intelligence features—Recall, Click to Do, and upgraded Windows Search—to Copilot+ PCs through the Windows 11 April 2025 non-security preview update. To access these tools, users must enable ´Get the latest updates as soon as they´re available´ in the Windows Update settings. Recall, a long-anticipated capability, continuously captures background screenshots, encrypts them using the device´s TPM module, and stores them locally, creating a comprehensive searchable index sorted by keywords, dates, and application context.

Privacy and security for Recall are reinforced through Windows Hello authentication for altering its settings, customizable retention policies, app exclusion lists, and manual snapshot deletion. For enterprise customers on Windows E3, administrators can manage Recall functions centrally via Group Policy controls, supporting broader security and compliance initiatives in organizational environments. These options offer users granular control over how much of their activity is indexed while ensuring sensitive data remains protected.

Click to Do, the second feature, operates directly at the window manager level and is accessible via keyboard (Win + Click) or a right swipe on touchscreens. This context-aware tool automatically adjusts its functionality to the selected content: text receives options for summarization and translation, while images benefit from background removal and editing tools. The image-related features are universally supported across all Copilot+ hardware; however, text-based functionality is initially exclusive to devices with Snapdragon processors, with support for upcoming AMD Ryzen AI 300-series and Intel Core Ultra 200V chips in the pipeline.

The update also revamps Windows Search by integrating a compact on-device language model that runs on neural processing units (NPUs) rated above 40 TOPS. This new model allows users to perform natural-language queries across all Windows environments, dramatically improving search relevancy and speed—delivering results up to 70 percent faster than Windows 10 and eliminating the need for precise file names when locating content.
