Keysight installs largest commercial quantum control system in Japan

Keysight delivers a milestone quantum control system to power cutting-edge research at AIST´s new Japanese testbed for quantum and Artificial Intelligence technologies.

Keysight Technologies has announced the successful delivery of what it claims is the world´s largest commercial quantum control system to Japan´s National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST). This powerful system has been integrated into the Global Research and Development Center for Business by Quantum-AI Technology, also known as G-QuAT. The inclusion of this advanced control hardware in G-QuAT´s new evaluation testbed is expected to dramatically advance research and development in quantum computing, providing a platform to assess scaling and performance for future technologies.

Quantum computers operate with qubits and photons, requiring an intricate control mechanism to bridge the gap from conventional code and hardware to the quantum realm. As experimental quantum systems increase in complexity and size, the demands placed on these control systems have intensified. Any performance gap or inefficiency in the control architecture directly impacts the usefulness and capability of the quantum processor as a whole, making the choice of control hardware a mission-critical decision for laboratories and research facilities aiming for breakthroughs in quantum technology.

In selecting Keysight as its technology partner, AIST prioritized system reliability and performance to ensure their quantum research would have a robust and precise operational backbone. The newly-installed testbed at G-QuAT is positioned to become a hub for not only national, but also international collaboration and innovation in quantum computing and hybrid quantum-Artificial Intelligence research. By supplying such a sophisticated and large-scale quantum control system, Keysight is asserting its role at the forefront of enabling the next generation of quantum scientific exploration.
