Intel Foundry wins Google Artificial Intelligence chip order

Intel Foundry has secured a Google Artificial Intelligence chip order, positioning the business against TSMC in a high-profile manufacturing contest. The shift affects a supply chain previously centered on Google, Broadcom, and TSMC.

Intel Foundry has won a Google Artificial Intelligence chip order, creating a direct challenge to TSMC in advanced chip production. The order gives Intel Foundry a prominent role in Google’s Artificial Intelligence hardware supply chain and places the company in competition with the manufacturer that had previously handled production for Google’s TPU program.

Previously, TPUs were co-designed by Google and Broadcom, with TSMC handling production. That arrangement made TSMC the manufacturing partner behind Google’s custom Artificial Intelligence chips, while Google and Broadcom remained tied to the design process. Intel Foundry’s win changes the competitive balance described for that production work, shifting attention to Intel’s ability to serve a major Artificial Intelligence chip customer.

The order also lands in a market where TSMC is already central to other major Artificial Intelligence chip supply chains. NVIDIA, which currently relies entirely on TSMC for Artificial Intelligence chip production, remains tied to the same manufacturing base that Intel Foundry is now challenging through the Google order. The development puts Intel Foundry into a more visible position in the contest for Artificial Intelligence chip manufacturing business.
