IBM launches autonomous FlashSystem storage powered by agentic artificial intelligence

IBM is rolling out a new generation of FlashSystem arrays that use agentic artificial intelligence to automate storage management, ransomware detection, and data optimization across the stack.

IBM introduced a new generation of IBM FlashSystem storage platforms that are co-run by agentic Artificial Intelligence, positioning the line as autonomous storage designed for continuous protection and intelligent operations. By extending existing Artificial Intelligence features with agentic Artificial Intelligence, the systems aim to provide sustained protection, autonomous threat analysis, and customized recovery recommendations. IBM states that clients can turn storage into an always-on layer of intelligence that enables reliable and secure storage operations that can reduce the manual effort of storage management by up to 90%.

The portfolio refresh centers on three new arrays, the IBM FlashSystem 5600, 7600, and 9600, which deliver up to 40% greater data efficiency for improved capacity footprint and performance, compared to the previous generation. These systems are positioned to handle demanding enterprise workloads while using Artificial Intelligence-driven automation to streamline routine tasks and optimize resource utilization. The emphasis is on higher efficiency and performance along with greater resilience in the face of operational and security challenges.

Alongside the hardware, IBM is introducing FlashSystem.ai, a new set of intelligent data services that help administrators manage, monitor, diagnose, and remediate issues across the entire data path. The portfolio also includes a fifth-generation FlashCore Module all-flash drive that is engineered to provide hardware-accelerated real-time ransomware detection, data reduction, analytics and operations, with advanced telemetry and consistently low latency at scale. Together, these elements are intended to create an integrated, self-optimizing storage layer that pairs agentic Artificial Intelligence with specialized hardware for security, analytics, and performance.

Google Vids opens free video generation to all Google users

Google has made Google Vids available to anyone with a Google account, adding free access to video generation with its latest models. The move expands Google’s end-to-end video workflow and increases pressure on rivals that charge for similar tools.

Court warns against chatbot legal advice in Heppner case

A federal court found that chats with a publicly available generative Artificial Intelligence tool were not protected by attorney-client privilege or the work-product doctrine. The ruling highlights litigation risks when executives or employees use chatbots for legal guidance without lawyer supervision.

Newsom orders California to weigh Artificial Intelligence harms in contract rules

Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed an executive order directing California agencies to account for potential Artificial Intelligence harms in state contracting while expanding approved use of generative tools across government. The move follows a dispute involving Anthropic and reflects a broader split between California and the Trump administration on Artificial Intelligence oversight.
