CJ ENM debuts Artificial Intelligence animation ‘Cat Biggie’ as part of new strategy

CJ ENM introduced a companywide Artificial Intelligence content strategy and premiered its first fully Artificial Intelligence-generated animation, 'Cat Biggie,' at an industry event in Seoul. The company also showcased proprietary tools to accelerate development and production across formats.

Korean entertainment company CJ ENM unveiled a comprehensive Artificial Intelligence content strategy alongside the premiere of its first fully Artificial Intelligence-generated animation, Cat Biggie, at its 2025 Culture Talk event in Seoul. Marking the company’s 30th anniversary, executives outlined plans to apply Artificial Intelligence across planning, production, distribution and marketing to build next-generation intellectual property. “We are applying AI across the entire content value chain to expand AI content production across genres and formats,” said chief strategy officer Shin Keun-sup, framing the strategy as a bid to secure future-defining IP.

The company demonstrated two proprietary systems now embedded in workflows. Cinematic AI targets narrative content for drama and film, integrating image, video, sound and voice into a single pipeline while automatically processing 3D characters and environments for consistent visuals, addressing a key hurdle in Artificial Intelligence-generated video. The AI Script system acts as an agent for IP discovery, analyzing consumer demand and market trends to surface promising properties and suggest optimal genres and media formats. CJ ENM said the tool offers a stronger grasp of literary language than conventional models from major tech companies and supports cross-lingual analysis for deeper marketability assessments.

Cat Biggie, a nonverbal short-form series about a cat who unexpectedly becomes father to a baby chick, is CJ ENM’s first fully in-house Artificial Intelligence production. The show comprises 30 two-minute episodes created by a team of six specialists over five months, including content planning and character development. “The key challenge was controlling and expressing the dynamic movements unique to animation,” said Baek Hyun-jung, head of AI business and production. The team used Cinematic AI to convert characters into 3D data and train the production system, which Baek said enabled a high level of completeness in the final output.

CJ ENM characterized the timeline as a substantial efficiency gain, noting that typical five-minute 3D animations can take three to four months to produce. Cat Biggie will launch globally on YouTube in July. Building on the debut, the company plans to expand into Artificial Intelligence film and drama within the year, with Shin describing the goal of becoming “a global AI studio” through team expansion and creator development programs.

The strategy arrives amid industry debate over the creative opportunities and regulatory risks surrounding Artificial Intelligence. At the event, SHIN & KIM LLC partner Sang-Hyeok Im called for clear industry guidelines, legal frameworks for copyright and data protection, and dedicated government departments. CJ ENM’s broader footprint includes acclaimed titles such as Parasite via CJ Entertainment, Queen of Tears, I Can See Your Voice and Tony Award-winning musicals like Kinky Boots. The company operates Studio Dragon, U.S.-based Fifth Season, CJ ENM Studios and the Korean streaming platform TVING.
