Spoken, a Portland-based company, announced the public launch of its Artificial Intelligence-powered, multi-voice audiobook creation platform on Aug. 26, 2025. The patent-pending system — in beta for the past year and shaped by thousands of writers and listeners — aims to deliver natural, fluid narration with emotional nuance across multiple characters. Spoken markets the product as a way for independent authors to produce immersive, character-driven audiobooks without the artificial tone associated with traditional text-to-speech.

The platform combines proprietary agentic Artificial Intelligence with emotionally nuanced voice synthesis and partnerships with Hume AI and ElevenLabs. Authors can assign unique voices to each character, choosing between custom Artificial Intelligence-generated voices or human voice clones produced by professional narrators.
