Bosch Center for Artificial Intelligence advances industrial research and global collaborations

The Bosch Center for Artificial Intelligence is Bosch’s global hub for industrial Artificial Intelligence, combining research, product integration, and ethics-focused initiatives through a network of academic partnerships and foundations.

The Bosch Center for Artificial Intelligence functions as Bosch’s center of excellence for integrating cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence technologies into products and services across the company. Established in 2017, the Bosch Center for Artificial Intelligence drives the deployment of Industrial Artificial Intelligence solutions that are intended to be “Invented for life,” connecting fundamental research with real-world applications. Operating from research locations in the United States, China, India, Germany, and Israel, its interdisciplinary teams of domain experts, data professionals, and software engineers focus on safe, secure, robust, and explainable Artificial Intelligence, working with one of the world’s largest datasets under company guidelines designed to foster trust in intelligent products.

The Bosch Center for Artificial Intelligence concentrates on highly relevant future domains, including automated driving, manufacturing, embedded Artificial Intelligence, and healthcare, and its research spans hybrid modeling, deep learning, natural language processing, neuro-symbolic Artificial Intelligence, reinforcement learning, control and optimization, probabilistic modeling, and Industrial Artificial Intelligence. Open collaboration with academia is central to its strategy, with joint labs and projects at institutions such as the University of Freiburg, TU Wien, Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Tübingen, Tsinghua University, the SIRIUS Research Center, Cyber Valley, and the University of Amsterdam’s Delta Lab 2. These partnerships cover topics like multifidelity optimization, neural architecture search, robust deep learning, data-efficient and safe deep learning, probabilistic deep learning, explainable machine learning, neuro-symbolic Artificial Intelligence, semantic technologies, and computer vision, with business applications ranging from Bosch manufacturing and factory automation to automated driving, driver assistance systems, engineering development processes, and embedded Artificial Intelligence.

Beyond research collaborations, the Bosch Center for Artificial Intelligence engages in initiatives aimed at trustworthy and decentralized technologies. In support of trustworthy Artificial Intelligence, Bosch joined the AI Verify Foundation in November 2023, a non-profit led by Singapore’s IMDA that promotes responsible Artificial Intelligence through testing, standards, and governance, with Bosch seeking to contribute best practices for the entire Bosch Group. Bosch and fetch.ai are expanding their cooperation by establishing the fetch.ai foundation that will research, develop, and commercialize web3-technologies to enable an “Economy of Things,” where connected machines can make autonomous economic decisions, supported by a decentralized, open-source ecosystem for secure data sharing and collaborative innovation. The Bosch Center for Artificial Intelligence also emphasizes scientific publishing, a distinguished lecture series featuring external experts on topics such as Artificial Intelligence safety, neural approaches for autonomous navigation, physics-informed learning, and efficient training through quantization and sparsity, and it actively promotes careers and global research opportunities, inviting specialists to work with unique datasets, cross-domain applications, and international teams.
