ASMedia ASM2464PDX USB4 controller certified for Thunderbolt 4

Asmedia's USB4 device controller ASM2464PDX has received Intel Thunderbolt 4 certification, marking an upgrade in the company's Thunderbolt strategy and positioning the chip for edge Artificial Intelligence computing, professional users, and high-performance storage.

ASMedia Technology Inc. announced that its USB4 device controller, the ASM2464PDX, has achieved Intel Thunderbolt 4 certification. The company framed the milestone as a significant upgrade in its product strategy within the Thunderbolt ecosystem. ASMedia said the certified controller is intended to provide a complete solution for edge Artificial Intelligence computing, professional users, and the high-performance storage market.

The ASM2464PDX is presented as setting a new market standard for downstream port specifications. According to the announcement, the controller is the first to support the PCI Express Gen 4 x4 interface on its downstream port. ASMedia highlighted that this pioneering downstream capability distinguishes the ASM2464PDX from competing controllers and aligns the device with workloads and peripherals that can leverage higher lane counts.

Beyond the downstream interface, ASMedia emphasized bandwidth and storage compatibility. The company said the ASM2464PDX’s specification complements high-end NVMe SSDs and unlocks the full 40 Gbps bandwidth potential of Thunderbolt 4. That unlocking is described as enabling transmission speeds faster than previously available for Thunderbolt 4 solutions, positioning the controller for applications that demand high throughput and low-latency external storage and compute connectivity.

Uk falling behind on Artificial Intelligence adoption

New research indicates the UK is losing ground on Artificial Intelligence adoption as many businesses fail to move beyond early experimentation. More than half remain stuck in the pilot phase, pointing to slow deployment across the market.

OpenAI pauses UK Artificial Intelligence investment plans

OpenAI has paused its role in Stargate UK, a major Artificial Intelligence and infrastructure project tied to a wider £31 billion UK-US investment programme. The decision sharpens concerns about energy costs, regulation, and infrastructure readiness for large-scale tech investment in Britain.

Anthropic launches Claude for small business

Anthropic has introduced a version of Claude aimed at small companies, packaging its model inside common business software and backing the launch with training. The move targets a segment that plays a major economic role but has been slower than large enterprises to adopt Artificial Intelligence.

Colorado approves rewrite of state Artificial Intelligence law

Colorado lawmakers passed SB 26‑189, replacing much of the state’s first-in-the-nation cross-sector Artificial Intelligence framework with a narrower regime centered on automated decision-making transparency and consumer rights. The measure reduces compliance burdens from the 2024 law while preserving attorney general enforcement.

Polis signs regulatory review and Artificial Intelligence bills

Gov. Jared Polis opened his post-session bill signings by approving two measures aimed at improving Colorado’s business climate. One mandates regular reviews of state regulations, while the other rewrites the state’s Artificial Intelligence rules around transparency, human review, and enforcement.
