Arm´s accuracy super resolution upscaler debuts in Fortnite mobile

Epic Games brings Arm´s Accuracy Super Resolution to Fortnite Mobile, boosting visuals and battery life with advanced upscaling based on AMD´s FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.

Mobile gaming has long grappled with the delicate balance between visual quality and hardware limitations, including restrictive GPU power, memory bandwidth, and thermal constraints. To address these technical hurdles without compromising the hallmark visual fidelity of its blockbuster, Epic Games is now partnering with Arm to introduce the Accuracy Super Resolution (ASR) upscaling technology to Fortnite Mobile. Notably, Fortnite becomes the first title to integrate ASR, setting a precedent for enhanced mobile graphics without the need for a complete rendering pipeline redesign.

ASR leverages a temporal upscaling technique grounded in AMD´s FidelityFX Super Resolution 2 framework, leveraging data from multiple low-resolution frames to reconstruct a higher-quality image. This allows the game to render at a lower internal resolution while outputting visuals that appear sharp and artifact-free. Instead of a complex overhaul, Epic has incorporated ASR via a dedicated Unreal Engine 5 plug-in, ensuring broad compatibility across Android and iOS platforms. The practical outcome is striking: sharper textures during intense firefights, improved detail in open world vistas, and cleaner images even on devices with moderate hardware specifications.

Demonstrations at the 2025 Game Developers Conference spotlighted significant performance gains. Selected devices powered by Arm’s Immortalis-G720 GPU showed as much as a 53% increase in frame rates and a 20% reduction in power consumption during real-world gameplay tests. For users, this means extended play sessions, less thermal throttling, and less battery drain—critical for sustained mobile gaming. Importantly, the ASR implementation does not dilute the game´s creative vision, allowing Epic’s developers to maintain rigorous standards of color accuracy and visual effects. MediaTek’s involvement further buttressed these benefits, with its Dimensity 9300 chipsets achieving similar power-saving results, underscoring the broad ecosystem-level impact of advanced upscaling. The collaboration signals a tangible leap in marrying visual fidelity with efficiency on next-generation mobile titles.
