AMD Sets FSR 4 Release Date and Unveils Project Redstone

AMD will bring its new Artificial Intelligence-based FSR 4 upscaling to Radeon RX 9000 cards in June 2025 and teases Project Redstone with advanced features for ray tracing and frame generation.

AMD has officially announced the launch date for FidelityFX Super Resolution 4 (FSR 4), confirming that users of Radeon RX 9000 series graphics cards will be able to access the new technology by June 5th, 2025. FSR 4 introduces a breakthrough super resolution algorithm powered by Artificial Intelligence-driven machine learning, promising substantial improvements in image quality and greater accuracy at every performance preset offered by the FSR 4 suite.

During its Computex 2025 keynote, AMD also revealed the next phase of its graphics upscaling technology, codenamed ´Project Redstone.´ This forward-looking extension of FSR is set to launch in the second half of 2025 and incorporates the advanced AI-driven super resolution methods from FSR 4, while adding three ambitious features: neural radiance caching, an advanced Ray Regeneration engine, and next-generation Frame Generation—all utilizing machine learning techniques. Project Redstone is positioned as AMD’s direct response to NVIDIA’s DLSS 3.5 and DLSS 4, aiming to match or exceed their capabilities, especially in high-end, ray-traced games.

The newly introduced neural radiance caching system is designed to efficiently simulate indirect lighting by continually learning how light interacts within a scene, thus reducing the computational overhead typically associated with ray tracing. Alongside this, the Ray Regeneration function operates via a neural network to reconstruct missing pixels in complex lighting scenarios, enhancing reflection quality and overall visual fidelity when super resolution is engaged. AMD’s commitment to elevating frame generation with a new Artificial Intelligence-based model further underscores its ambition to drive parity with, or even surpass, competitors in the rapidly evolving field of graphics upscaling and ray tracing for demanding AAA gaming experiences.
