AMD and Eviden, the Atos Group product brand focused on advanced computing, have been selected to build Alice Recoque, a next-generation supercomputer designed to meet growing high performance computing and Artificial Intelligence demand. Alice Recoque is slated to become France’s first and Europe’s second exascale supercomputer. The system will be led by Grand équipement national de calcul intensif (GENCI) and operated by Commissariat à l’énergie atomique et aux énergies alternatives (CEA), and it will be powered by next-generation AMD Artificial Intelligence and HPC compute technologies.
The project represents an overall cost of 544 million euros and is funded by EuroHPC JU, with the budget stemming from the Digital Europe Programme (DEP). The effort is coordinated through the Jules Verne Consortium, led by France via GENCI and CEA, and includes international participation from Netherlands IT cooperation SURF and Greece through GRNET. These partners will contribute to the deployment and operation of the facility under the leadership of the French organizations named in the announcement.
Alice Recoque is described as serving as an Artificial Intelligence factory as well as a high performance computing resource, indicating a dual emphasis on large-scale scientific computing and Artificial Intelligence workloads. The announcement highlights the use of next-generation AMD compute technologies to deliver the performance targets associated with exascale-class systems. The selection of AMD and Eviden positions the consortium to provide both the hardware and advanced computing integration needed to operate one of Europe’s most powerful supercomputers.
