Adobe and Runway team up on advanced artificial intelligence video tools for creators

Adobe has signed a multi-year partnership with Runway to bring Runway’s latest generative video models, including Gen-4.5, into Adobe Firefly and its professional creative applications, aiming to define new artificial intelligence powered video workflows for creators and brands.

Adobe has entered into a multi-year strategic partnership with Runway that combines Runway’s generative video technology with Adobe’s established creative software ecosystem. Under the agreement, Adobe becomes Runway’s preferred API creativity partner, giving Adobe customers early access to Runway’s newest models, including the Gen-4.5 generative video model. The companies position the collaboration as a way to define the next generation of Artificial Intelligence powered video workflows across Adobe Firefly, Premiere, After Effects and other Creative Cloud tools used by professional creators and brands.

Starting immediately, Adobe Firefly customers can use Runway’s Gen-4.5 model ahead of its broader public release, both inside the Firefly app and on Runway’s own platform. Gen-4.5 ‘s motion quality, prompt adherence and visual fidelity enable dynamic, controllable action with strong temporal consistency across a wide range of generation modes. Creators can use it to stage complex, multi-element scenes with precise compositions, realistic physics and expressive characters whose gestures and facial performances hold up from shot to shot. They can generate video from text prompts, explore different visual directions, pacing and motion, and then shift into the Firefly video editor to assemble generated clips into polished, shareable videos, before taking projects into Adobe Premiere, After Effects and other Creative Cloud applications for additional control and refinement.

Adobe and Runway will work directly with independent filmmakers, major studios, agencies, streaming platforms, Fortune 500 brands and global enterprises to co-develop new generative video capabilities that are integrated directly into Adobe tools already trusted for high-stakes productions. Within Firefly, creators can combine Adobe’s commercially safe Firefly models with partner models from Runway and other companies such as Black Forest Labs, ElevenLabs, Google, Luma AI, OpenAI and Topaz Labs, or use Firefly Custom Models to generate in their own style. Adobe emphasizes a creator-first philosophy on Artificial Intelligence, stating that Artificial Intelligence is a tool to augment, not replace, human creativity, and that content generated in the Firefly app is not used to train generative Artificial Intelligence models. Runway’s Gen-4.5 is available in the Adobe Firefly app and on Runway’s platform, and Adobe customers with a Firefly Pro plan will have access to unlimited generations until December 22.
