Micron unveils world´s first 1-gamma LPDDR5X memory for smartphones

Micron introduces industry-leading 1-gamma LPDDR5X memory, setting new benchmarks for Artificial Intelligence performance and efficiency in mobile devices.

Micron Technology has announced the shipment of qualification samples of the world´s inaugural 1γ (1-gamma) node-based low-power double data rate 5X (LPDDR5X) memory. This advanced memory solution is engineered specifically for flagship smartphones, positioning itself as a catalyst for Artificial Intelligence-driven applications by delivering unprecedented LPDDR5X speeds of up to 10.7 gigabits per second. Beyond raw performance, Micron´s latest memory achieves up to a 20% reduction in power consumption, making it ideal for data-intensive tasks such as on-device translation and image generation while supporting extended battery life and seamless user experiences.

Recognizing the evolving design needs of next-generation smartphones, Micron´s engineers have significantly minimized the physical dimensions of its LPDDR5X package. With a thickness of just 0.61 millimeters, it now stands as the thinnest solution on the market—6% slimmer than competing alternatives and offering a 14% height reduction from its previous iteration. This reduced form factor offers smartphone manufacturers greater design flexibility, particularly as demand grows for ultrathin and foldable devices that require compact, high-performance memory components.

The launch of the 1-gamma LPDDR5X underscores Micron´s commitment to pushing the boundaries of mobile memory technology and supporting the proliferation of sophisticated applications that leverage Artificial Intelligence on smartphones. As manufacturers integrate this new memory node, users can expect enhanced multimedia capabilities, smoother multitasking, and improved energy efficiency, ultimately redefining the smartphone experience in a rapidly evolving mobile landscape.
