Intel and Shell Launch Certified Immersion Cooling for Xeon Data Centers

Intel and Shell have partnered to deliver a certified immersion cooling solution for Xeon-based data centers, responding to the demands of Artificial Intelligence and high performance computing.

The rising computational demands driven by Artificial Intelligence and high performance computing are making data center cooling a growing challenge for IT operators worldwide. As workloads intensify, traditional air cooling systems are being outpaced, prompting an industry-wide shift toward liquid cooling solutions. According to the Dell´Oro Group, liquid cooling is set to contribute 36 percent of all data center thermal management revenue by 2028, reflecting the surge in adoption and its critical role in modern infrastructure.

Despite its advanced cooling capabilities, liquid immersion cooling—where hardware is fully submerged in thermally conductive liquid—has seen slow uptake due to a lack of certified, reliable, and ready-to-deploy solutions. This absence of standardized products has created hesitation among data center managers, concerned about long-term performance and ease of implementation.

Addressing these barriers, Intel has collaborated with Shell Global Solutions (US) Inc. to introduce a fully validated and certified immersion cooling solution tailored specifically for 4th Gen and 5th Gen Intel Xeon processors. Supported by ecosystem partners Supermicro and Submer, this new system is the first to carry the Intel Data Center Certified for Immersion Cooling designation. It establishes a new benchmark for energy efficiency, system reliability, and sustainable performance in data center environments. With this solution, operators can deploy state-of-the-art cooling technologies with increased confidence, meeting the escalating needs of computing-intensive applications while reducing energy use and environmental impact.
