Both aim to regulate Artificial Intelligence medical devices, but their strategies for doing so diverge markedly, making it essential for MedTech organizations to comprehend and plan accordingly.
The FDA tackles Artificial Intelligence-enabled software as medical devices through its ´total product lifecycle´ approach. Initiated with the 2021 AI/ML-Based SaMD Action Plan, the U.S. framework introduces five pillars, including predetermined change control plans (PCCPs), Good Machine Learning Practices (GMLP), emphasis on transparency and patient-centered design, advancing regulatory science, and pilot real-world data programs.
