NVIDIA and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) have announced a strategic partnership to advance sovereign artificial intelligence solutions for European public service media. The collaboration, unveiled at NVIDIA GTC Paris during VivaTech, aims to provide more than 110 EBU member organizations across 50 countries with access to high-quality, locally governed cloud and artificial intelligence technologies. The effort is focused on establishing frameworks that support compliance with European data protection rules, foster public trust, and reinforce the cultural independence of the region´s media landscape.
The initiative´s core is the development of sovereign artificial intelligence and cloud systems that use local infrastructure, regional datasets, and European-trained expertise. These systems are intended not only to uphold European values and standards, but also to enhance public trust and strengthen innovation capability. The EBU and NVIDIA are creating hybrid cloud architectures aligned with public service media needs, incorporating the EBU´s Dynamic Media Facility and Media eXchange Layer architecture. By following open-source principles and prioritizing interoperability and scalability, they aim to lower costs and energy consumption for artificial intelligence workflows and enable transparent, accountable, and culturally tailored content recommendations.
The partnership includes significant investments in local data centers and sovereign cloud technologies, leveraging NVIDIA´s enterprise platforms, large language models trained on regional data, and retrieval-augmented generation systems. Media organizations will also benefit from access to NVIDIA’s Deep Learning Institute, supporting workforce development and the cultivation of an artificial intelligence-ready talent pool across Europe. Furthermore, NVIDIA and the EBU are engaging with European regulators, software vendors, and technology providers to standardize best practices and ensure practical, collaborative solutions for sovereign artificial intelligence and cloud deployment, ultimately strengthening media autonomy, security, and resilience across the continent.
