EdgeCortix completes initial close of Series B financing to accelerate chip production

EdgeCortix secures new Series B commitments to accelerate mass production of energy-efficient Artificial Intelligence processors for edge and generative Artificial Intelligence workloads.

EdgeCortix Inc. announced the initial close of its Series B funding round, a financing step the Tokyo-based fabless semiconductor company says pushes its cumulative capital, including equity and non-dilutive government awards since December 2024, to nearly ? million USD. The company framed the raise as follow-on momentum after recent government project awards and positioned it as a catalyst for faster commercial deployment and scaling of its silicon and software stack.

The initial close drew commitments from new investors including Yanmar Ventures, Pacific Bays Capital, NTT Finance Corporation, SiC Power, and Aero X Ventures, along with continued participation from existing backers such as SBI Investments and Global Hands-On VC. EdgeCortix said the proceeds will support mass-production deployment of its ´SAKURA-II´ AI co-processors and accelerate volume production of the next-generation ´SAKURA-X´ chiplet platform, which the company describes as capable of up to 2,000 TOPS per device while targeting low power consumption. Company leadership framed these chips as purpose-built for generative Artificial Intelligence workloads at the edge and for use in robotics, industrial automation, defense, aerospace, space exploration, smart cities, and telecommunications.

Investors highlighted both market potential and the strategic nature of EdgeCortix´s technology. Representatives cited fit with corporate missions, broad commercial applications, and recent high-profile government awards as factors behind their commitments. Pacific Bays Capital and Aero X Ventures emphasized the dual-use nature of the technology and existing design-wins, while Global Hands-On VC pointed to rapid execution since its initial investment in 2023. The company also referenced a project award from the U.S. Defense Innovation Unit as evidence of traction in defense-related applications.

Founded in 2019 and headquartered in Tokyo with offices in the United States and India, EdgeCortix develops energy-efficient hardware-software co-designed accelerators for edge inference and generative Artificial Intelligence workloads. The Series B remains open, with the company expecting additional closings through 2025 as it scales manufacturing and customer deployments.
