Adaptive Security Secures Funding to Combat AI-Powered Cyber Attacks

Adaptive Security receives funding from a16z and OpenAI to address AI-driven cyber threats like deepfakes.

Adaptive Security, a leader in AI-powered social engineering prevention, announced a significant funding round led by Andreessen Horowitz and the OpenAI Startup Fund. This marks OpenAI´s first investment in a cybersecurity startup. The round includes participation from Abstract Ventures, Eniac Ventures, CrossBeam Ventures, and K5, alongside executives from Google, Workday, Shopify, Plaid, and Paxos. The funds will accelerate the development of solutions to guard against AI-powered social engineering,”

Deepfake attacks, facilitated by open-source intelligence models, have become prevalent, with over 100,000 incidents reported in the U.S. in 2024. The sophistication of these attacks has intensified, extending beyond high-profile executives to nearly anyone in real-time communications. Instances include AI-generated impersonations influencing U.S. foreign policy and financial transactions. Cybersecurity figures are not exempt, as shown in an attack where a CEO´s voice was cloned to deceive his team.

Adaptive Security offers an AI-native defense platform to mitigate these threats, involving deepfake persona attack simulations and AI security training. The platform´s features include real-time threat triage, AI-driven risk scoring, and GenAI content generation for continuous employee training. Supported by the investment, Adaptive aims to stay ahead of evolving threats, arming organizations with the tools to simulate attacks, educate employees, and enhance their cyber defenses effectively.
