Keysight Technologies has collaborated with AMD to streamline the electrical compliance testing for the PCI Express (PCIe) specification in pre-production AMD server CPUs. Leveraging early access to Keysight´s beta software, AMD accelerated the development and validation of a server motherboard capable of running PCI Express technology at speeds reaching up to 64 GT/s. The breakthrough prototype was publicly demonstrated for the first time during the PCI-SIG Developer´s Conference, held June 11-12 in Santa Clara, California.
The PCI Express 6.0 standard, representing the newest advancement in high-speed server and computing interfaces, dramatically boosts data throughput, supporting up to 256 GB/s over 16 lanes. Designed for next-generation computing, PCIe 6.0 enables not just faster data transfer but also reduced latency and improved energy efficiency. This performance leap is crucial for modern servers, which are increasingly tasked with managing dense workloads and rapid connectivity between components.
Significantly, PCIe 6.0’s capabilities unlock new possibilities for deploying Artificial Intelligence technologies by providing the high-bandwidth, low-latency infrastructure needed for demanding applications. In addition to facilitating seamless integration with accelerator modules—a core requirement for advanced Artificial Intelligence workflows—PCIe 6.0 is set to underpin migrations to faster Ethernet standards such as 802.3dj. By enabling accelerated compliance testing and demonstration for AMD, Keysight is playing a strategic role in shaping the future of server and data center performance.
