Palo Alto Networks announced its intention to acquire Protect AI, a rapidly emerging startup specializing in Artificial Intelligence security, as part of a broader push to bolster its capabilities in AI Security Posture Management (AI-SPM). The deal´s financial details were not disclosed, though the acquisition follows reports of significant valuation discussions. Protect AI, established in 2022, has quickly become recognized as a major player in the realm of AI security due to its innovative focus on visibility, management, and threat protection within AI and machine learning environments.
Protect AI has made significant strides in the Artificial Intelligence security domain, including its recent acquisition of SydeLabs in July 2024. This move expanded its offerings to include tools for simulating attacks against generative AI systems. Moreover, the startup secured a substantial Series B funding round led by Evolution Equity Partners in August, raising its total funding to over NULL.5 million. This positions Protect AI as a well-funded and technologically advanced entity within the sector.
Palo Alto Networks stated that this acquisition will substantially strengthen its AI security portfolio, coinciding with the launch of its new platform, Prisma AIRS. Prisma AIRS is designed to provide comprehensive capabilities such as AI model scanning, posture management, red teaming, and runtime protection for AI agents. The timing of the announcement aligns with the kickoff of the RSA Conference 2025, where the company also revealed major enhancements to its Cortex XSIAM and Prisma SASE products. According to Palo Alto Networks, integrating Protect AI´s expertise will help accelerate the Prisma AIRS vision and position the company at the forefront of securing emerging AI technologies.
