Anthropic, the artificial intelligence startup lauded for its large language model Claude, is seeking to raise funds in a new round led by investment firm Iconiq Capital. The round aims to secure a valuation that would place Anthropic among the world’s most highly valued private technology firms, trailing only juggernauts like OpenAI and SpaceX. Iconiq Capital, which manages the fortunes of prominent tech figures including Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg and Dustin Moskovitz, LinkedIn’s Reid Hoffman, and Twitter’s Jack Dorsey, has submitted terms for the fundraising round to Anthropic, according to sources cited by the Financial Times.
Anthropic has experienced a sharp rise in investor attention. Reports indicate the company’s valuation ambitions have climbed steadily in recent weeks, suggesting robust confidence in its technology and commercial prospects. In its previous funding round from March, Anthropic was valued at several billion dollars post-money and disclosed integrating its Claude model into workflows ranging from code generation and tax assistance to the acceleration of medical research and enhancement of Amazon’s Alexa platform. Recently, Anthropic launched ‘Claude for Financial Services,’ an industry-oriented generative artificial intelligence offering designed for analysts, portfolio managers, and underwriters at major financial institutions.
The startup’s head of financial services and insurance, Jonathan ‘JP’ Pelosi, emphasized Anthropic’s traction within high-trust industries, crediting the reliability of its models and solutions as key advantages. Financial Times also reported that the company’s annual recurring revenue has quadrupled since the year’s start, underscoring intense demand for artificial intelligence solutions in enterprise and financial sectors.
